Rapid weight gain in the first 3 months of life is associated with several determinants of cardiovascular disease.

Results of a study including 217 persons: Weight gain in the first 3 months of life was inversely associated with insulin sensitivity and serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level at the age of 18 to 24 years. Rapid weight gain during the first 3 months of life is associated with waist circumference, acute insulin response, ratio of total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and level of triglycerides.
